Advantages of Silicon Carbide Thrust Disc for Magnetic‑Drive Pumps

Silicon carbide thrust disc is a core component bearing axial thrust in magnetic‑drive pumps, working together with thrust washer.

1. High Hardness & Superior Wear Resistance
Mohs hardness: 9‑9.5 with low friction coefficient. Under axial force during pump operation, the thrust disc undergoes repeated sliding friction. It is resistant to scuffing and grooving. Stable performance can be maintained even when fine particles exist in the medium, extending overall pump service life.

2. Excellent Corrosion Resistance
High chemical inertness against most acids, alkalis, salts and organic solvents.
‑ Pressure‑less Sintered SiC (SSiC): Free of free silicon, resistant to caustic soda and high‑temperature acid‑alkali, preferred for corrosive conditions.
‑ Reaction‑bonded SiC (RBSiC): Cost‑effective. Not suitable for hydrofluoric acid and hot concentrated strong alkali.

3. Good Thermal Stability, Low Risk of Seizure
Low thermal expansion coefficient avoids deformation and jamming under temperature fluctuation. High thermal conductivity enables frictional heat to be quickly removed by pumped medium, preventing thermal damage. Working temperature range: ‑80~200 °C.

4. Smooth Friction‑pair Performance
SiC‑to‑SiC mating pair features high surface finish, lubricated by liquid film of process medium. It ensures low vibration and low‑noise operation. Hardly any wear debris is generated, avoiding medium contamination, ideal for fine chemical and pharmaceutical service.

Limitations

1. Brittle material; chipping or cracking may occur under heavy impact from hard solids.

2. Dry‑running is strictly forbidden. Without liquid lubrication and cooling, the thrust disc will burn out quickly.

3. Avoid hydrofluoric acid and hot concentrated strong alkali for RBSiC grade.

Applications: Chemical magnetic‑drive pumps, fluorine‑lined magnetic‑drive pumps; 24‑hour continuous service, media with fine particles and aggressive chemicals.
